Brunch @ The Red Wagon

The Red Wagon Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
Location: 2296 E Hastings Street, Vancouver, BCV5L 1V4

The Red Wagon is a local favourite in the neighbourhood. From 9:00 to noon-ish on any given Saturday, you can expect constant line-ups outside the restaurant. We were told to wait for 20 minutes for a table for two, and we waited exactly… 20 minutes 😛

The Red Wagon is a casual, down-to-earth diner, and this is reflected by their menu.

BBQ Brisket – $14

This is one of the most popular dishes at The Red Wagon. It comes with potatoes, jalapeno cornbread, fatty beef briskets, and eggs (prepared to your liking). Every ingredient is drenched in this tomato-based, tangy and spicy sauce. This dish was certainly heavier than what I’m accustomed to; especially for brunch. The beef brisket was tender, and very satisfying to eat with the sauce. Interestingly, the jalapeno wasn’t spicy at all, and the portion size was a bit too much for me!

(Daily special) Cajun Fish Cakes – $14

The fish cakes resembled a Japanese croquette. It had a light, crispy batter. Inside was a mixture of fish (forgot which kind), mashed potatoes, scallions, and some kind of lemony stuff. This dish also came with two eggs (poached to your preference). In contrast to the beef brisket, the fish cakes, although fried, were much lighter. Then there were more potatoes on the side. Potato overload!
