It was Friday night, and the Molangs arrived at Kyoto Takenoko at 5:15 PM. Yes, we were early birds, but had we showed up 15 minutes later, we probably would have to wait. This restaurant is very popular!
Let’s get going with the food.
Itawasa (fishcake sashimi) – $3.39
I saw two of my favourite things – fishcake and sashimi, so I ordered right away. Apparently, this dish was simply chilled (cooked) fishcakes + cucumber slices + soy sauce & wasabi. We were slightly let down because we naively expected some type of special raw fishcake. Nevertheless, we enjoyed this dish refreshing side dish.
Unagi Hitsumabushi Set – $19.95

Long story short, we liked the second method (#3) the best because of all the wonderful flavours and textures you get in a bite. The soup method (#4) was a bit strange because the soup itself wasn’t very strong, so everything felt slightly watered-down.
(Daily special) Super Tuna Bowl – $15.99
Sashimi lovers would want this! Tuna + uni + ikura to be consumed with a bowl of sushi rice + assorted pickles. Very delicate and very delicious.
